Lab Safety

1. Be familiar with emergency contact numbers and the location of the lab telephone, first aid kits, fire extinguishers and emergency exits.

2. Keep head and hands clear of the moving parts (e.g. gears and grips) of the testing machines.

Be careful!  This machine has a clamping force over 750 pounds and can cause serious injuries.

3. Make sure specimen is fully seated in (i.e. goes all the way through) the grips of the machine.  Otherwise the grips may fracture.

4. Test only approved materials.  Brittle materials and buckling tests are prohibited, as the samples may unexpectedly exit the testing machine.

5. Load specimen as specified by instructors.  ASK if unsure of proper procedure.
