Spring Testing

Each person in the class will share spring data with two or three others sitting at the same table.  Each person or team, depending on your instructors' choice, will perform a linear regression on the recorded spring data and write his/her/their own document to communicate the results to the course instructors.  The document will be due at the beginning of your next lab class.

Tension Spring

source

κ = spring rate/constant
P = load
δ = deflection
G = shear modulus
d: diameter of coil wire
D: outside diameter
n: number of turns
ν = Poisson's ratio

Compression Spring

source

The team needs to pick either a compressive or a tension spring, obtain length and force measuring devices, and devise an experiment.  You should obtain at least five force-elongation data pairs during the experiment.
