Direct Shear, Torsion Testing

This week we'll be running elastic-inelastic torsion and direct-shear tests.  You will collect torsion data until the bar becomes fully plastic and use that data to calculate G and the shear yield strength.  While we're waiting for the torsion specimen to fracture, we'll also run a double-shear test.  You'll compare the torsion and direct shear results with your tension results from earlier in the semester.
